Successful school volunteer programs
consist of individuals dedicated to improving education for all
students. A volunteer becomes involved to benefit the
children, share knowledge, and provide a service to the community.
Here at St. Joseph School we need and
rely on volunteers in several areas:
- Tricky Tray
- Solicitation, running, spotting, set-up, clean-up, etc.
- Christmas Bazaar - Bake
table, kitchen, setting-up, cleaning-up - A great way to get
into the holiday spirit.
- Dinner Dance/Auction -
Solicit for the silent auction, class conations, set-up, etc.
- Homeroom Parent - Help
coordinate different activities in the classroom, i.e., parties,
refreshments for H&S meetings, etc.
- Coordinators/Committee Members
- We need volunteers to organize some of our school
activities/fund raisers.
- Tuition Raffle
- Mission Day
- H&S Newsletter
- Publicity Committee
- Technology Committee
- Catholic Schools Week
Committee
There are also several ways you can
help during the school day.
- Photocopying - Before or
during school - Run off and collate papers for the teachers
and/or the office.
- Lunch Duty - Our
greatest need - (From 11:25 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.) watch
children on the playground (or in the classrooms on inclement
weather days), helping to open milk cartons or water bottles
while the children are eating, cleaning up tables between
lunches, etc.
- Library Aide - Assist the
Librarian - (Tue. and/or Thu), i.e., catalog books, etc.
- Wednesday Envelopes - Help
to stuff the communication envelopes on Wednesday morning.
- Sports - Basketball (Grades
3-8) - Coaches are needed for boys' and girls' teams.
We also need help in the Kitchen/Snack Bar during games (usually
Friday nights and/or Saturdays)
- After School Activities -
Clubs
Please call the office with any suggestions you may have for new
activities or clubs.
- Chess
- Marian Club (Grades 1-8)
- Dance (Grades 5-8)
- Girl Scouts
- Academic Bowl

The only major requirement for
becoming a school volunteer is a commitment of time. A
businessman who comes to the school for a single session to talk
about a particular topic is just as committed as the parent who
volunteers on a weekly basis to help in the library. each is
dedicated to helping students and is willing to set aside time to do
so.
It is easy to become a school
volunteer. Your skills, enthusiasm, and time can make a
difference in the programs that can be offered at the school.
Everyone has something valuable to share, so show your support by
becoming a volunteer.
Volunteer forms will be sent home so
that all volunteers can let us know what duties they wish to perform
and what days they are available.
Thank you for your support and
consideration,
Jo-Ann M. Higgs
Principal
