Summer Reading Assignments for Children Entering 3rd Grade

SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT

  • Read Two Books

  • Two Projects (one for each book)

There is nothing better than reading a good book during summer vacation.  This year, you have several good books to choose from.  I will expect you to read two books and to do a report on both.  Please pick two books from the reading list that you have not read yet.  You may not do two books by the same author or in the same series.

I have given you a choice of different projects to do for your report.  There are three choices, and you must pick two projects to do, one for each book.  You may not use the same project for both books.  All of the directions are listed on the sheet.

I hope you enjoy reading your books and doing these projects.  Reading will make your summer most enjoyable.  Have a great summer and stay safe!.

I am looking forward to working with you next year.  See you in September.

PROJECTS
Please pick 2 different projects

1. MAKE A STORY BOARD

  1. Fold a large piece of paper into four parts (12 x 18).

  2. In the first part, draw the cover of the book.  Write the title and the author's name.

  3. In the second part, draw a picture of the main character.  Write something about the character.

  4. In the third part, draw a picture of the main character.  Write something about the character.

  5. In the last part, tell what you think.  Add your name.

2.  MAKE A DUST JACKET

  1. Take a look at the dust jacket on a book.  You'll see that it has two flaps on the ends.

  2. Get a sheet of paper about the same size.  Fold it to make flaps on each end.

  3. Draw a picture on the front of your dust jacket.  Print the title and the author's name.

  4. On the flaps, tell about what happens.  Don't give the whole story away, though.

  5. Share your book jacket.  show the picture and read what you wrote on the flaps.

3.  COMIC STRIP

For this book report, you will make a cartoon strip.  The first frame of your cartoon will have the title and the author, along with a picture.  Take 5 to 8 important events from the story and illustrate them in the proper sequence.  You will write a sentence to go with each cartoon.  Make your cartoons colorful and neat.  All spelling and punctuation must be correct.  have fun reading your book and doing your cartoon.

Put your name (first and last), date, and Reading on the back of your cartoon.
