The fourth grade is very happy
to welcome a new student - Nicholas Villeda. We are all
excited that he has joined our school family.
The fourth graders seem to be
settling in and getting accustomed to our classroom routine,
switching classes, and the requirements of their different
teachers.
Looking ahead, we will be
continuing with place value in Math, sentences in Grammar, and
the Goodness of God in Religion. Because October is the
month of the rosary, we will also begin to learn The Apostles'
Creed.
Book
Report - Due 10/27
A book report was assigned and will be due on October
27. Since this is the month of Halloween, your child is
to read a mystery or "scary" chapter book and make a
mask of the main character. A short oral summary will be
given. Your children have the requirements. There
is nothing to write. I must approve all books.
Math
It is very important for your children to have an excellent
command of the basic multiplication facts. Our new math
series has a very good web site for practicing them. Go
to www.sadlier-oxford.com/math
and in the student box click on 4. Then click on Math
Minutes. Under Multiplication, click on Multiplication
Facts. Use 3 minutes, 50 problems, vertical form.
Your child can also use this
site to practice the addition, subtraction, and division
facts. I will occasionally give a "surprise"
timed test on these operations as well. All these tests
will have 30 problems of one operation. The time for
addition and subtraction will be 75 seconds. (These
facts should be mastered.) The time for division will be
90 seconds.
Halloween
Regarding Halloween parties: this year we will again
have an afternoon snack of a donut and a juice box.
School policy is that no goody bags are to be sent in (whether
or not they are filled with candy or other treats). They
will only be returned to you. We will eat before the
parade, which will begin at 1:30. There will be no
homework that day -- my treat!
