CURRICULUM
This year, in conjunction with many schools throughout our
state, the P.E. program will focus on increasing the overall
physical fitness of our students. Classes will include
exercises designed to increase flexibility, muscular
strength and endurance, and cardio-respiratory fitness at
every grade level. Proper form and breathing in
addition to some resistance training, (in the middle and
upper grades), will enhance each student's overall physical
well-being. Of course, we will continue working with
our various equipment in "game-type" activities in
order to provide opportunities for our children to
experience maximum participation, healthy competition and
good sportsmanship.
GRADES
6th, 7th and 8th
In the spirit of encouraging the concept of "fitness
for life", we are participating in the Sussex County
Partnership Pedometer Program. It is a 12 week program
for students in grades 6, 7 and 8 in which the children will
wear a pedometer three times a week throughout the school
day. Each student will record the number of steps
he/she has taken on each day in a "journal" which
will be handed in at the end of the program. The goal
is to increase the number of steps you take as the program
progresses. More details will follow shortly.
The 6th, 7th and 8th graders
twice a week, so one day a moth the P.E. classes will be
devoted to a health class. The class will focus on the
importance of exercise and good food choices in living a
healthy lifestyle; as well as, discussions on current health
issues as presented in various periodicals.
Our
bodies are a gift from God. By respecting them through
physical fitness and making healthy choices, we give Him
thanks.
